Howdy!!! Disney’s gem mining station is a cute little addition to the Fort Wilderness Campground. It is located between the Bike Barn and the Meadow Trading Post (main store). Our daughter loved doing these when she was a tad younger but did ask to do it this year in hopes of snagging some great gems for jewelry making. The boy went along with it at first but as soon as he started he was way into it. Of course Dad chimed in with some knowledge on rock identification.
GEM Mining details
Head on over to the bike barn and purchase your bag of rough, which contains gemstones from around the world. They will also give you some mining trays at this time. Once you have your gear head on over to the Assay Station.
Drop your tray in the water and dump a portion of your rough / goodies into the tray, sift and pull out your gems! Once done… return your tray and review your findings.
They offer 3 different size bags of rough and the costs range from $8 to $30 per bag of gem goodies / rough. We purchased the “MOTHERLOAD” for $30.00 and it was the largest. This bag will have the largest GEMS and can be easily shared with 2 people. There was no DVC or Annual Pass discount on this activity.
